Week 2
Part 1
My most effective strategies for learning include having a schedule for completing assignments, knowing when to study so I don't feel overworked, and having a place where I can study without distractions. However, I could improve on some of the SQ3R skills like creating an agenda of what I will be studying, reading over materials for more than just the answer to a question, and taking the time to revise my work.

Part 3
Project management is used to create a new product in a given timeframe. There are three given attributes that define a project like time, scope and cost. A change in any one of the attributes will affect the other two. The work breakdown structure (WBS) is a tool in project management used to manage large scale projects. The WBS breaks a project down into deliverables which include any step in the process of project like tests, prototypes and results. It can be presented as tree diagrams. hierarchal lists or WBS dictionaries. A WBS will help determine what the time, scope and cost of a project will be. Another tool used in project management tool is called the Gantt Chart. It is a chart with a vertical and horizontal axis that is used to plot how much time a task will take. Horizontal bars representing tasks being done while the length of the bar represents how much time it will take to complete. These charts can be created using colors and other modifications to represent different meanings. It is up to the creator to make a legend dictating what things on the chart mean.
Part 4
The three projects that stood out to me were OtterParsing, DriveDiary, A Bird's Song. OtterParsing is used to filter through resumes, extracting those which show experience in the tech industry. The visuals were a well-done part of the presentation, showcasing how the program works and implementing different scenarios that could occur while looking through resumes. One update they could add to their program is the ability to detect potential candidates based on experience that may relate to the tech industry like having credentials in mathematics or having completed bootcamps for entry-level positions. DriveDiary is a tool to track gas usage and vehicle maintenance. The well-done presentation showcased information as to why it was important to track maintenance and how entering gas usage creates a chart showing miles per gallon over time. It would be beneficial to create a mobile app to enter gas usage and maintenance history. Some people may forget to update it if they must enter it through a web browser. The A Bird's Song video game was a great way to bring environmental issues to the forefront. I really like the gameplay and how smooth it ran. For a small team, it was a great feat to achieve. An improvement that could be made was entering in small facts while moving through world in-game that pops up at certain points in the game.
Part 5
This week there was a lot of work to complete. We learned more about project management and how its uses are critical for efficiency and reducing costs. We continued working on our industry analysis papers, writing our drafts for our peers to review. This was a tough week.

Your schedule is very well planned out and shows a great deal of care was put into weaving healthy amounts of work, school, and free time into your days. Sticking to a schedule like this will help ensure success!
ReplyDeleteHi there, your schedule is nicely planned; however, I suggest being more specific. For example, instead of simply labeling time slots as "homework," you could specify what you’re working on, such as a quiz, lecture materials, or other tasks for the following week.
ReplyDeleteHey Vlad, you seem to have a pretty balance schedule. It's definitely grind heavy. Some notes would be to change up your leisurely activities on Wednesday to school work instead. This small change will help balance things out even more. You'd be able to enjoy leisure activities with friends on a friday while knowing how much work you have left which should allow your weekends to open up more as well.
ReplyDeleteHi Vlad!
ReplyDeleteYour weekly activity log is well planned and in-depth! I think that it is great that you have a set schedule everyday to get work done while maintaining a healthy work to life balance. It is inspiring to see how much you are able to accomplish everyday. I see that your Saturdays tend to be the most busiest with school work and with very little breaks. I would suggest sneaking in some time to recharge during these homework heavy days.
I think it's great that you made sure to plan out time for yourself and seeing friends, as it's a common mistake that can lead to burnout (I'm guilty of this sometimes). You seem to have a great balance of work, academics, sleep, and leisure (personal and with friends). Sleep is a big one, I feel like a lot of people are trying to fit everything they can in life and neglect sleep to get it done (also guilty of this, I have a lot to learn from you!), but without good sleep, you can't always be at your best.
