My CS Journey

     My team was able to decide quickly how we should structure out video presentations and what information should be introduced. We began by creating an outline for each video and then randomized which parts each person would get. This is the fairest way on how to do things. We have been chatting on discord to figure out the topics and discuss how we each would take part in completing the presentations. I think for a small group of four, our ability to complete assignments and collaborate is well-done. For larger groups, it would be beneficial to have a structured hierarchy with leaders for different sections of a project. Part 1:  After discussing some ideas for our capstone project, there were a few main ones that stood out. One idea was to create an app like Life360, which allows people to track the location of their loved ones using google maps api. Another idea was to create a health app that notifies a person about appointments, the importance of check ups and has a built-in translator for non-English speakers. My idea was to create a food recipe app where you can input audio and video content for each recipe. This can make it easier to keep track of recipes that may not have exact measurements, like those handed down from parents who might just eyeball each ingredient.   Industry Expert Interview The person I decided to interview is Hector Lara, who is a coworker in the engineering department at DMM Packaging. Our work consists of building various types of packaging machinery. Some examples include robotic palletizers, case packers and complete lines including conveyors. I chose to interview Hector because he was the first engineer I met at DMM who taught me how to use basic software like QuickBooks and Excel. He also took interest in my studies since I had mentioned to him that I was beginning to take computer science courses.  By talking to Hector, I gained insight into the process of designing parts and software so mechanical parts function correctly. As the company continues to evolve, their designs change and efficiency grows. It is up to the engineers to implement new ideas that are introduced by the executives in the business.
