Week 6

Part 1:

After discussing some ideas for our capstone project, there were a few main ones that stood out. One idea was to create an app like Life360, which allows people to track the location of their loved ones using google maps api. Another idea was to create a health app that notifies a person about appointments, the importance of check ups and has a built-in translator for non-English speakers. My idea was to create a food recipe app where you can input audio and video content for each recipe. This can make it easier to keep track of recipes that may not have exact measurements, like those handed down from parents who might just eyeball each ingredient. Although I have not looked into current recipe apps, I think adding audio and video content would be a game-changer for those of us who wish to keep our family recipes alive.

Part 2:

There was a lot to go over this week including our ethics essay, a career guide and creating a cover letter and resume. After watching the mock interview for a software engineering position, I was intimidated by how much Kylie knew. She was able to come up with a solution quickly to a library of books with several parameters and begin explaining how work that has plagiarized could be detected and removed from the library. It gives some good insight in how we can expect interviews to go since companies would want to prove that we have the technical skills to do the job.

We also had to create a cover letter and resume that we would use to get an internship of our choosing. Although I would like to work in digital forensics, an internship in cybersecurity would help me gain deeper knowledge of how web applications and personal data is kept secure. It could also provide a pathway to a career in digital forensics if the particular internship includes the handling and recovery of data stored on devices.

We have begun working on our final video presentation by creating two outlines of the topics to be discussed for our professional audience and the general public. Our presentation will include history of AI and when it was first used to create deepfake content. It will also include the main issues and risks by creating deepfake content such as identity theft and sexual exploitation.
